Young Drivers and their passengers are at risk. The facts speak for
themselves.
- One in three drivers who die in a collision is under
25 (Department for Transport/Brake/RoadSafe).
- Young males drivers are now the biggest killer of young
women in the UK ('The Report', Evidence reference 72).
- 27% of 17-19 year old males are involved in a road collision
in their first year of driving (DfT/ABI).
That’s why the Thames Valley Police and the Thames Valley Safer Road Partnership have introduced the Young Driver Scheme to make driving safer for young drivers under 25. By offering education, rather than punishment, Thames Valley Police are the first police force in the UK to offer a dedicated driver awareness scheme focusing on the needs of young people – their beliefs, their lifestyle, their ambitions. Combining an innovative multi-media Workshop together with state-of-the-art e-learning training modules, it is anticipated that this scheme will start to make a difference to the lives of young people who attend, from day one.
